ACTRA Industry Series 2012

ACTRA Industry Series 2012

Want to learn some new skills?  Get out of the house and connect with your fellow performers?

ACTRA Maritimes Council and the ACTRA Training Committee have put together a series of Industry Seminars to help us all get through the long days of winter.  So come and check us out!

Every Monday night for the next month, starting Monday, 13th February, ACTRA will be hosting a seminar about a different subject that may be of interest to you and your career.  Come to one!  Come to them all!

All seminars are open to full and apprentice ACTRA members and will take place Monday nights between 7-9 pm at the Neptune Theatre. Please meet at the stage door entrance on Argyle St., (the glass double doors between the main theatre and studio entrance)  There is a drop in fee of $10 for all of the seminars.  This is to help us cover our costs.  Any left over funds will be put towards the purchase of a new video camera for ACTRA members to use!

While this is a drop in, we ask that members pre-register for each seminar beforehand so we have an idea of numbers and how many chairs to set out.  You can do that by contacting Eva MacGregor at .  Registration cut off will be noon on the day of each seminar.  If there are any problems (i.e. snow or cancellation dates), you will be notified via email.

You and Your Representation: Meet the Talent Agent
Moderator: Andrea Dymond
An actor-agent relationship is like a marriage: you can only have one partner at a time, and you can only find out if it’s good for you by trying it.  What is a talent agent?  What do they do?  How do I approach one?  What does an agent look for?  What’s the difference between a talent agent and a casting agent?  When and why do I need one? Join ACTRA Training Committee Chair Andrea Dymond who will ask these questions (plus any you may have!) of local talent agents from the Cassidy Group and Sky Talent Group, and find out what role they play in the biz.
Cost: $10

Off the Page!
Instructors: Deb Allen and Glenn Lefchak
Voice work is always one of those areas that our members want to know more about- how to break into the market, how to develop skills, etc., etc.  Getting the words off the page isn’t always an easy task!  Come chat with ACTRA members Deb Allen and Glenn Lefchak about expanding your skill set to break into this field.  Topics covered will include the different venues of voice work- the announcer, the conversational voice performer, narrator and cartoon voice work.  They will discuss the very specific skills required to approach each one, as well as their differences, with small examples of each. There will also be a Q&A session with the audience.
Cost: $10
