ACTRA Maritimes Emerging Actors Committees

We are looking for enthusiastic, optimistic, and energetic new actors and youth to join our newly created ACTRA Maritimes Emerging Actors Committees, including a subcommittee for ACTRA minors and their parents/guardians.

These committees are being created to inform newly unionized members about ACTRA and its role in the entertainment industry, the privileges of being a member, and their responsibilities as new members.

The Emerging Actors Committee and sub-committee of Young Emerging Actors are intended to educate, support and enhance the actors as they move forward in their careers in the entertainment industry. The committee and its members will hold education sessions on a number of potential topics including: audition and acting workshops; explanations of various industry roles and responsibilities (e.g. agents, casting directors, AD’s, producers, etc.); what to do if you see a problem or ACTRA violation while you are on a set; and/or, any other topic the members bring forward and agree on. It is also an opportunity to bring people together in a non-competitive environment to understand the benefits of ACTRA and how they can contribute to their union. The inclusion of the Young Emerging Actors is important as these members and their parents have different needs than the Emerging Actors and they are also capable of making valuable contributions to ACTRA. These committee members are the future representatives of ACTRA and their participation will ensure that there will continue to be a well-educated and highly engaged membership representing Maritime actors.

The co-chair on this committee and sub-committee is Wanda Arab. She brings a tremendous amount of knowledge about the industry and ACTRA to the committee. Wanda has been an actor for 20 years and an ACTRA member for the past 16 years.  She is also a member on the ACTRA Maritimes Diversity Committee. You will recognize Wanda from many recent sets such as Beethoven, Book of Negroes, and currently Mr. D, working not only as an actor, but also as the Minors Coordinator.

We invite anyone interested in participating in, or just learning about, either of the committees to attend an information session to be held on Wednesday, July 9 6:30-8:00 pm in the boardroom of the ACTRA Maritimes office at 1660 Hollis Street in Halifax.

RSVP to Richard Hadley at

with your name and your ACTRA membership number.
